The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) is the piece of legislation with which the EU aims to achieve Good Environmental Status (GES) of its seas. This Directive requires Member States (MSs) to set up and implement Programmes of Measures (PoMs) to achieve this goal. This paper presents a catalogue as well as the analysis of the 535 measures proposed by the eight Mediterranean EU MSs to combat pollution and non-indigenous species and contribute to the GES of the Mediterranean Sea. The results reiterate the need for better coherence and coordination between MSs, also with non-EU countries in the preparation of the next iteration of PoMs. Only 5% of the measures applied have an effect beyond MSs´ marine waters jurisdiction, and a fifth of them lack linkages with any ecosystem component. The results point to gaps, while desired goals and recommendations will help policy makers to implement the and conceptualise measures.A meta-analysis was performed to review the potential effects of reversible lanes on traffic safety. A systematic review resulted in ten U.S studies, with 155 estimates of safety effects, that were selected for inclusion in the analysis. These studies employed either a simple before-after comparison or a cross-sectional comparison methodology. Study results were extracted by transforming the collision rates and frequencies of these studies into a log-odds ratio. The results of the meta-analysis suggest that the odds of a collision occurring are 30.9% higher for roads with reversible lanes when compared to roads without the treatment. The odds of a property-damage-only collision are predicted to be 16.6% higher, and injury collisions are predicted to be 34.9% higher with reversible lanes compared to no-treatment. The odds of a collision occurring during the peak period are expected to be 46.2% higher, while the odds of an off-peak period collision occurring are expected to be 12.8% higher. These results were statistically significant, with the exception of the off-peak period collision result. iCARM1 price A meta-regression was performed, which regresses variables related to study type, collision type and operational characteristics of the study locations on the extracted log odds ratio. Peak period operations were positively and significantly correlated with an increase in crashes. Finally, cross sectional studies tend to find greater effects than before-after studies.The blooming of intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) has been continuously shaping a hybrid traffic environment in which the road is shared among ICVs and vehicles driven by human drivers. However, due to the insufficient understanding of the human driving strategy and style, the conflicts between ICVs and human drivers have arisen public attention, threatening the road safety and bottlenecking the development of ICV. In order to embed the human driving strategy in the intelligent driving system, researchers have been rolling out efforts on driver modeling. Most driver models, however, still suffer from the limited application scope or poor transparency. Within our finite horizons, a unified and readable driver model for various driving scenarios is generally unobtainable. In this work, we tried to model the human driving strategy from an aspect of human nature, that is, the way human drivers respond to the driving risk. We employed the risk field theory (also known as the safety field theory) to model the environmental risk in a comprehensive manner. By studying the risk-response strategy from the driving data of 24 human drivers, we proposed a unified structure, which we call the risk-response driver model (RRDM), to model the human driving strategy. This model provides access to learning not only the average driving strategy of a group of human drivers but also the specific driving style of a single driver. The explicit and readable driving strategy produced by RRDM can be directly employed to reproduce human-like longitudinal driving control. We verified the performance of our model in car-following tasks and found that its human-like driving performance is recoverable among the human drivers who participated in the tests.Due to its low toxicity and high reactivity, nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) is widely used as a remediation agent. However, nZVI is also prone to rapid aggregation and surface oxidation, which significantly reduces its practical efficacy. Here three enhancement techniques, proposed to overcome these limiting factors, incremental addition, pH adjustment and the application of ultrasonic energy, were systematically evaluated for their ability to increase the remediation efficiency of 1,1,1-Trichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane (DDT) sorbed onto the surface of a soil surrogate. The efficacy of nZVI was also compared to the effectiveness of microscale zero valent iron (μZVI). Of the three enhancement techniques studied, only ultrasonic energy significantly enhanced the effectiveness of nZVI for the degradation of DDT and its primary degradation products due to disaggregation and surface cleaning of nZVI and increased ultrasound induced mixing. While pH had no effect on the degradation efficiency of nZVI, low pH significantly enhanced the effectiveness of μZVI remediation. This was attributed to the sustained low solution pH reducing surface corrosion products, increasing surface area and maintaining a cationic surface for attracting anionic DDT.Under two wind conditions, a polar coordinated segmented quantification method (PCSQM) taking the easternmost point of Chongming Island (121°59’20″E, 31°29’38″N) as the origin of the coordinate was proposed to quantify wind-induced impacts on the heavy metal footprint emitted from four simulation sites on the main waterway of the Yangtze Estuary. One wind condition was that of a real wind field in 2019 called Case 1; the other one was a combination of monthly maximum wind speed selected from 1989 to 2019 called Case 2. In the comparison of these two conditions, the PCSQM was used to calculate the footprint excursion of four simulation sites mentioned, including three major urban sewage outlets and the upstream pollution source, represented by Xuliujing (XLJ) during the biological sensitive aggregation period of the Yangtze Estuary (BAPYE). The results showed that the Cu footprint was closer to Chongming Island and showed a trend of narrowing its coverage under Case2 compared with Case1. The Southeast section of the XLJ had the broadest width (83.
