Concussion (also called mild traumatic brain injury) can occur across the lifespan. Excessive force to the head, either through direct impact or force transmission through the body and neck, is a concussive event. After a concussive event, there can be injury not only to the brain, but also to other structures such as the cervical spine and vestibular system. The clinical practice guideline published in the April 2020 issue of JOSPT outlines the role of physical therapy examination and management after a concussive event. Any excessive force to the head is considered a “concussive event,” even when a concussion hasn’t been diagnosed. These concussive events can happen during sport or recreation, as a result of a fall or accident, or from an act of violence. Many people recover from these concussive events with rest and gradually get back to normal activities; for others, though, symptoms persist. The good news is that these symptoms may respond well to physical therapy. To ensure the best possible outcome, getting a thorough evaluation after a concussive event is very important. His chief complaint was worsening right groin pain. Following examination, the patient attended 3 treatment visits; however, each visit exacerbated the patient’s groin pain, so the physical therapist recommended the patient return to his surgeon for hip imaging. Radiographs revealed a right proximal femur osseous lesion. These documents have typically focused on the diagnosis of concussion and medical management of individuals post concussion, but provide little specific guidance for physical therapy management of concussion and its associated impairments. Further, many of these guidance documents have targeted specific populations in specific care contexts. The primary purpose of this CPG is to provide a set of evidence-based recommendations for physical therapist management of the wide spectrum of patients who have experienced a concussive event. Following examination, spinal radiographs and the human leukocyte antigen (HLA-B27) test, which is used to identify common autoimmune disorders, were completed. The radiographs revealed multilevel changes consistent with diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, and the HLA-B27 test was positive. Functional brain differences related to sex in psychopathic behavior represent an important field of neuroscience research; there are few studies on this area, mainly in offender samples. Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of electrophysiological differences between male and female psychopath offenders; specifically, we wanted to assess whether the results in quantitative EEG, low-resolution electromagnetic tomography (LORETA), and changes in synchronous brain activity could be related to sex influence. Sample and Methods. The study included 31 male and 12 female psychopath offenders, according to the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised criteria from 2 prisons located in Havana City. The EEG visual inspection characteristics and the use of frequency domain quantitative analysis techniques are described. Results. The resting EEG visual analyses revealed a high percentage of EEG abnormalities in both studied groups. Significant statistical differences between the mean parameters of cross spectral measures between psychopathic offender groups were found in the beta band at bilateral frontal derivation and centroparietal areas. LORETA showed differences especially in the paralimbic and parieto-occipital areas Synchronization likelihood revealed a significant group effect in the 26 to 30 Hz band. These results indicate that combining quantitative EEG, LORETA analysis, and synchronization likelihood may improve the neurofunctional differentiation between psychopath offenders of both sexes.Water disinfection using visible light-active photocatalyst has recently attracted more attention due to its potential to inactivate microbes. In this study we have investigated the efficiency of photocatalysis (TiO2 / UVA) on the inactivation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the attenuation of its virulence factors. For this aim, the photocatalytic effects of TiO2 / UVA on the cultivability and viability of P. aeruginosa were investigated. Furthermore, during the photocatalysis, the morphology of the bacterial cells was examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM) while the virulence factors were assessed by protease and lipase activities in addition to the mobility and communication of cells. The results revealed that during the photocatalysis the bacterial cells lost their cultivability and viability on agar under the action of the reactive oxygen species generated by the photocatalytic reaction. In addition, AFM observations have shown a damage of the bacterial membrane and a total disruption of the bacterial cells.
