Previous studies have suggested benefits of sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors including improving glycemic control, lower body weight, uric acid-lowering effect and decreasing blood pressure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on hematocrit (Hct) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Embase, CENTRAL, PubMed and other databases were searched from the establishment of the database through to July 2020. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were treated with SGLT2 inhibitors were analyzed using the random effects model. Stata 12.0 statistical software was used to estimate the weighted mean difference (WMD) and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

A total of 40 RCTs were included, comprising 21,050 patients. SGLT2 inhibitors resulted in a significant increase in Hct levels compared to patients treated with a placebo (WMD 2.67%, 95% CI, 2.53 to 2.82; P<0.001). There have been no report about the association between physical capacity and health-related quality of life in patients with adolescent idiopathic structural scoliosis (AIS). This study aims to investigate the correlation between dynamic cardiopulmonary capacity and quality of life in AIS patients.

This retrospective study involved 63 patients. Correlations between cardiopulmonary exercise test parameters and Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)-22 scores were evaluated using Spearman’s correlation test.

Fifty-four female patients [mean age 14.1 (range, 10-19) years] and 9 male patients [15.9 (range, 14-19) years] with AIS (Cobb angle 28°-86°) were included. Significant correlations were found between the peak oxygen uptake normalized by body weight and the SRS-22 scores in female patients, as reflected by the function (r=0.511, P<0.001), pain (r=0.418, P=0.002), mental health (r=0.536, P<0.001) and subtotal (r=0.618, P<0.001) scores. Significant correlations were also found between oxygen uptake at anaerobic threshold normalized by body weight and the SRS-22 scores in female patients, as reflected by the function (r=0.404, P=0.002), pain (r=0.455, P=0.001), and subtotal (r=0.501, P<0.001) scores, along with respiratory exchange ratio reflected by subtotal (r=0.464, P<0.001) score.

Infectious disease caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) has become one of the most serious challenges due to its high morbidity and mortality and research on it has aroused great concern worldwide in the last decade. Thus, a bibliometric analysis of relevant publications is needed to identify the situation of current investigations and prioritize the future research areas.

The current study retrieved articles related to CRE published between 2010 and 2020 from the Web of Science core collection database. The search strategy syntax included “carbapenemresistant Enterobacteriaceae”, “carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae”, “carbapenemase producing Enterobacteriaceae” and “carbapenemase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae” which were searched in both Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and titles. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder, gCLUTO and other machine learning tools. With the introduction of New South Wales Ambulance Authorised Palliative Care Plans within a metropolitan palliative care service, the perspectives of patients, caregivers and clinicians and their understandings of the processes involved in completing the Plans were investigated.

This qualitative sub-study used semi-structured interviews. Nineteen patients and caregivers who had received an Ambulance Palliative Care Plan and 10 clinicians who completed the Plans were interviewed (n=4) or participated in a focus group (n=6). Grounded theory provided theoretical and procedural direction. Thematic content analysis utilized the constant comparative method.

This study was designed to retrospectively evaluate prognostic factors for patients with stage III SCLC and explore the best treatment mode for locally advanced SCLC.
