These results confirm bovine anaplasmosis as the primary cause of CTF among the calves of dairy cattle within the studied area.Endoparasitic infections are associated with morbidity in cats. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of endoparasites among cats of different life stages in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The samples were analyzed individually by macroscopic exploration for proglottids and centrifugal-flotation. Stool samples were obtained from household cats (n = 57) and shelter cats (n = 336). Endoparasites were detected in 50.64% of the samples. Among household and shelter cats, 21.05% and 55.66% were infected with endoparasites, respectively. In household cats, the most prevalent endoparasites were Ancylostoma spp. (in 25.0%) and Strongyloides spp. (in 25.0%), followed by Toxocara spp. (in 16.67%), Dipylidium caninum (in 16.67%), Cystoisospora spp. (in 8.33%), and Uncinaria spp. + Ancylostoma spp. (in 8.33%). In shelter cats, the most prevalent endoparasite was Ancylostoma spp. (in 29.41%), followed by Cystoisospora spp. (in 26.20%) and Toxocara spp. (in 16.58%), as well as Cystoisospora spp. + Toxocara spp. (in 8.02%); Ancylostoma spp. + Toxocara spp. (in 11.76%); Cystoisospora spp. + Ancylostoma spp. (in 3.74%); Cystoisospora spp. + Toxocara spp. + Ancylostoma spp. (in 3.21%); and Dipylidium caninum + Ancylostoma spp. learn more (in 0.53%). It subsequently spread to all continents, and infection with SARS-CoV-2 is now classified as a pandemic. Given the magnitude achieved, scientific interest in COVID-19 has also grown in the international literature, including its manifestations on imaging studies, particularly on CT. To date, no case series have been published in Brazil. Therefore, our objective was to describe the CT findings in an initial series of 12 patients.BACKGROUND Dyspnea and poorer physical performance are conditions that may be related and be present among the elderly. However, few studies have evaluated associations between these variables. OBJECTIVE To determine whether there is an association between dyspnea and physical performance among community-dwelling older adults of both sexes (age 60 years and over). DESIGN AND SETTING Cross-sectional study conducted in the city of Macapá, state of Amapá, Brazil. METHODS Socioeconomic and health data were collected using a structured form. Frailty syndrome was assessed based on the frailty phenotype proposed by Fried et al. Dyspnea was measured using the modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) scale and physical performance was measured using the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Data were analyzed using a linear regression model. RESULTS A total of 411 subjects (70.15 ± 7.25 years) were evaluated, most of them females (66.4%). It was observed from the mMRC scale that 30.9% (n = 127) of the subjects had some dyspnea symptoms grade 1 was most frequent. The physical performance score from the SPPB was 9.22 ± 2.01. Higher dyspnea scores were associated with poor physical performance, both in the crude analysis (β = -0.233; P = 0.028) and after adjustment for frailty condition (β = -0.148; P = 0.002) and for the socioeconomic and health variables (age, sex, number of diseases, smoking habit and frailty status) (β = -0.111; P = 0.025). CONCLUSION Higher dyspnea score was independently associated with poor physical performance among community-dwelling older adults.Our aim was to analyze hospitalization due to affective disorders in Brazil from 2003 to 2017 and the possible association with economic indicators during crises. We used data on hospitalizations due to affective disorders within the Brazilian National Health System, obtained from DATASUS; data on health-related behavior (television-viewing and physical activity) from the VIGITEL database; and economic data from the World Bank database. We found that the numbers of hospitalizations increased one year after the 2009 crisis and one year after the 2016 crisis. Negative changes in health-related behavior also followed changes in the numbers of hospitalizations due to affective disorders.INTRODUCTION In December 2019, an outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) probably occurred in Wuhan, China. By March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared a pandemic. Containment measures such as social distancing and hand hygiene were recommended. In this study, we start from the hypothesis that engaging with containment measures in a pandemic situation should be more comfortable for some people than for other people. Thus, individual differences should be associated with engagement with containment measures. OBJECTIVE To investigate to what extent two personality traits, extroversion and conscientiousness, are associated with engagement with two containment measures (social distancing and handwashing). METHODS The sample consisted of 715 Brazilian adults aged 18-78 years, who answered the Big Five Inventory 2 Short (BFI-2-S) and factors from the Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory 2 (IDCP-2). RESULTS Higher scores for extroversion were associated with lower means for social distancing (p less then 0.001) and higher scores for conscientiousness were associated with higher means for social distancing and handwashing (p less then 0.05). CONCLUSION The findings indicate the importance of acknowledging extroversion and conscientiousness traits as relevant to people’s engagement with the measures recommended for COVID-19 containment.OBJECTIVES to identify predisposing and enabling factors as well as the health needs associated with the discontinuance of outpatient follow-up of newborns who were hospitalized at neonatal intensive care unit. METHODS cross-sectional study, using the behavioral model of health services use. The study was composed of 358 mothers and newborns referred to the outpatient follow-up after discharge. Characterization, perception of social support, postnatal depression, and attendance to appointments data were collected, analyzed by the R software (3.3.1). RESULTS outpatient follow-up was discontinued by 31.28% of children in the first year after discharge. In multiple regression analysis, the chance of discontinuance was higher for newborns who used mechanical ventilation (OR = 1.68; 95%CI 1.04-2.72) and depended on technology (OR = 3.54; 95%CI 1.32-9.5). CONCLUSIONS predisposing factors were associated with the discontinuance of follow-up; enabling factors and health needs did not present a significant association.
